Chouhan pays tributes to Raja Ram Mohan Roy
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid floral tributes to the pioneer of Indian Renaissance, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, on his anniversary.
Raja Ram Mohan Roy was born on May 22, 1772 in Murshidabad district of Bengal. He gave impetus to the Indian freedom struggle. He has a special place in the field of Indian social and religious reawakening. He was vehemently opposed to child marriage, Sati system, casteism, outmoded rituals and purdah system.
Roy was the founder of the Brahmo Samaj, the originator of the Indian linguistic press, the pioneer of the social reform movement and the patriarch of the Renaissance era in Bengal.
