Had some good training weeks coming to All England’: Lakshya Sen after Chou Tien Chen win
Lakshya Sen reckons he’s had a good prep ahead of the All England week, and is ready to put the struggles of last six months behind. Sen told allenglandbadminton.com after beating Chou Tien Chen in Round 1, “The last few months have been really tough. Things have been here and there, my immunity was not up to scratch so I was getting sick really often after the surgery. I’ve just been trying to get back into my full fitness.”
Sen had undergone surgery to open up his nasal air passage, but had struggled with the after effects of antibiotics, and admittedly his immunity.
Causing the big upset on day 1, when he ousted the fifth seed Taiwanese, Sen said he was ready for the Chou style of play.
“More than tactically, he is an all-around strong player so I tried to take initiative and create openings all the time,” Sen was quoted as saying allenglandbadminton.com.
“If you lose three or four points then he’ll pounce on that and really take advantage of that. Every point, I had to be on my toes, try to attack and score the points. It was a big match today and credit to Chou Tien Chen for giving me a great match,” Sen added.
“He is a tough opponent so I was prepared to give my all out there and I’m happy with the way I came out in both of those sets.
Birmingham has been a happy hunting ground for Sen in 2022 with last year’s All England finals and Commonwealth Games gold. He expects to take off from where he left last season.
“It feels good to be back in Birmingham again – I have great memories from last year. I love to play in this kind of arena. It’s one of the biggest tournaments and it was always my dream to come and play here.” He has a final and a quarters from the three times he’s played the All England before. The Chou victory added to his giant killing run at the Utilita arena.
“The last few months I’ve been completely at full fitness and I’ve had some good training weeks coming here. I’m looking forward to playing now,” Sen who won in straight sets, told allenglandbadminton.com.
