After earthquake and tsunami, Russia’s tallest volcano erupts with ‘powerful glow’ | World News

The Klyuchevskoy volcano, the tallest active volcano in Eurasia, has begun erupting on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, following a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake in the Pacific on Wednesday, according to a report Reuters.
The Russian Academy of Sciences’ United Geophysical Service confirmed the eruption, reporting “a descent of burning hot lava on the western slope” along with “powerful glow above the volcano” and explosions, The Guardian reported.
The volcano is located roughly 450 km north of the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and has seen multiple eruptions in recent years.
Wednesday’s undersea quake triggered a tsunami of up to 13 feet on Russia’s eastern coast, damaging buildings and prompting widespread evacuation warnings across the region and Japan’s east coast. Several people were injured, but no fatalities have been reported.
