IPL 2024: After guiding WI to horic Test win against AUS, Shamar Joseph joins Lucknow Super Giants as Mark Wood’s replacement | Cricket News

Shamar Joseph who played a key part in the horic Win of West Indies against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane earlier this year has been named as a replacement for England’s Mark Wood for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season for Lucknow Super Giants.
“Joseph will join LSG for INR 3 Crore,” read a statement released from the IPL. “This will be Joseph’s first stint in the IPL,” the press release further quoted.
The 24-year-old has been the find for West Indies in this series against Australia as he rattled the hosts with a seven-wicket haul and helped visitors beat Australia eight runs to level this series 1-1.

It was West Indies’ first-ever win on the Australian soil in 27 years. West Indies haven’t won a Test in Australia since they enjoyed a 10-wicket success on a cracked-up WACA Ground pitch in Perth in February 1997.
“It is amazing for me, you know, I just want to turn this way to give a shout-out to my teammates and the management staff for great words of encouragement. Having a bruised toe to bowl with, but I just go through the phase and pain, knowing that I need to do this for my team and you know for everyone in my country and the Caribbean,” said Joseph after the game.
Joseph was retired hut on Day 3 after being struck a ripping yorker from Mitchell Starc. later West Indies Cricket posted a statement on X giving Joseph’s injury update. “Good news, as scans show no fracture in Shamar Joseph’s toe. He will continue to be monitored the medical team and assessed tomorrow. WI wish him a speedy recovery!”
Joseph also won the Player Of the Series award for picking 13 wickets from two games at an average of 17.31.
