Mayawati reviews party organisation

Bahujan Samaj Party leaders have hailed the stand of party president Mayawati on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). They said the stand of the BSP chief had been widely welcomed by the masses and had got positive response from the people.

The BSP chief on Sunday held a meeting of the party’s state unit to review the party organisation and strengthen it.

She expressed concern over the rising crime against women, particularly rapes and the tendency to burn women alive after gang-rape.

Mayawati conducted district-wise review of the party organisation at the grassroots level and directed the leaders to attend the shortcoming for strengthening the organisation.

She said it would be difficult for the party to achieve the target of forming government after the 2022 UP assembly elections without rectifying the shortcoming in the organisation.

The BSP, on December 5, had said that her party was against the CAB in its present form and suggested to the Centre to send it to the parliamentary committee.

“BSP is against the current form of the CAB, the government should reconsider some aspects of the bill and it should be sent to the parliamentary committee,” she said.

Mayawati said the Centre had brought the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in a hurry and it was “unconstitutional and divisive”.

“It is against the dream and Constitution of BR Ambedkar. The CAB is being forced on the country,” the BSP chief said.

Mayawati asserted that if the Central government took decisions in favour of the welfare of people, the BSP would support it just the way the party supported abrogation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
