Neetu David, Alastair Cook and Ab de Villers inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame | Cricket News
Former Indian women’s cricketer Neetu David has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Along with her former England opener Alastair Cook and former South African middle-order batter AB de Villiers too were given the accolade for 2024.
Second most ODI wickets for India
David is well known for her spell against England in 1995 where she scalped 8/53. She is the second-highest wicket-tacker for India with 141 wickets from 97 games in ODIs.
“It is truly an honor to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, something that I consider to be the highest recognition available to anyone who puts on their national team jersey,” David said.
“This comes after a lifetime of dedication to this great sport and it caps a very special journey for me to get to this point,” she added.
England’s highest run-scoring opener
There have been many memorable and marathon knocks Cook has compiled throughout his career. He also led the England side to win a Test series in India away from home in 2012. A feat no other traveling team could achieve since.
“Every time I pulled on the English shirt, I tried my best to be as good as I could be. I had the best 20 years playing cricket,” Cook said.
“I was very lucky to stay injury-free, meet some great people, share some great highs, and some great lows, which I think are important as well, and make memories which I’ll never forget,” Cook added.
South Africa’s Mr 360
De Villers with his ability to score runs all around the ground regered the fastest hundred in men’s ODI cricket. Additionally, he also made pivotal contributions in the Test arena for the South African national time during the side’s dominant era.
“I know I would have achieved nothing without the help and support of so many teammates, coaches and support staff from my early days at school in Pretoria, through so many memorable days at the Titans and with the South Africa team – and, indeed in franchise cricket – all around the world,” said De Villers.
