Padmavati: Is Deepika-Shahid-Ranveer’s next Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s longest film till date?
When Bollywood is enjoying giving its audience crisp stories with shorter duration, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is happy to stick to the long-duration format. And that’s what exactly he is doing with his upcoming period drama Padmavati .
When Karan Johar’s Ittefaq is only 100 minutes log, Bhansali’s magnum opus is said to be 193 minutes long. According to a report in DNA, Padmavati will fall into the bracket of 3 hour long film. A source told the daily, “The runtime of Padmavati is somewhere around three-hours-and-13-minutes. The makers had shot for material of over four-and-a-half hours and the director sat with his editor to chop the film down to somewhere around the almost 200 minute timer.”
Bhansali’s films are known for grand sets and spectacular visuals , and the filmmaker wants to retain his Midas touch in Padmavati too. And that’s the reason he is not willing to shorten the length of his film.
“It might be a long film, but it needs that kind of time. It’s visually spectacular with some stunning warfare scenes. If he had edited it further, he could have ended up diluting the essence of it. Bhansali will never compromise on the quality of his movie, even if that leads to a slightly longer runtime,” added the source.
Going by this piece of news, Padmavati is Bhansali’s longest film till date. His last film Bajirao Mastani was two hours 38 minutes long, while the duration of Ram Leela was two minutes and 35 minutes.
Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh is set to hit the screens on December 1.
