Patients dying of fever in absence of arrangements in hosps: Maya

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Thursday voiced concern over the outbreak of dengue in Uttar Pradesh and charged that many patients were dying due to lack of proper arrangements in government hospitals.

She termed the situation “highly worrisome” and urged the Yogi Adityanath government to pay attention to the matter.

The state’s Firozabad district has been battling an outbreak of dengue and deadly viral fever for the past two weeks that has left 55 people dead. Some cases have been found in neighbouring Mathura, Agra and Mainpuri districts as well.

In a tweet in Hindi, Mayawati said, “In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic in UP, the outbreak of dengue and other mysterious fever has engulfed almost the entire state at a very fast pace. Due to lack of proper arrangements in government hospitals, many patients are dying which is a matter of concern. The government must pay attention to this.

Mayawati’s remarks came as Uttar Pradesh is witnessing cases of dengue and viral fever amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Over 30 cases of dengue have been reported in Meerut so far, officials said on Wednesday. Amid the COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh, the surge in viral fever cases was also reported amongst children in various hospitals of Lucknow.

Meanwhile, the BSP will formally launch its election campaign in Uttar Pradesh from October 9 which happens to be the death anniversary of the party’s founder late Kanshi Ram.

Mayawati has asked party workers to pay homage to party’s founder late Kanshi Ram on the occasion by resolving to bring BSP back to power.

Party sources said that an estimated one lakh cadre turnout was expected at the memorial built in the memory of Kanshi Ram and Mayawati would address them.

The former chief minister of UP has already started reviewing preparations for the elections and even shortlisting the candidates. Mayawati has told the party cadre to observe Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary in a big way this year.

A party functionary said, “Behenji (Mayawati) has asked people from all 75 districts of UP to come to Lucknow on October 9. We are expecting a crowd of approximately one lakh, if not more, to visit the memorial. This will be the largest gathering of party workers in the state capital in two years since we could not organise any programme due to the pandemic.”
