Mantralaya staff defer stir after CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan assurance

BHOPAL: Mantralaya Employees Union on Thursday deferred their agitation following an assurance that the chief minister will look into their demands.

Mantralaya Employees Union president Sudhir Nayak said, “The principal secretary to CM called me on Thursday morning. He conveyed the CM’s message to wait for two days and ensured that he will look into our demands.

Subsequently, we have decided to defer the agitation.” He said their demands include increasing basic salary of private secretaries and section officers from Rs 6,500 to Rs 8,000 and revision of wages for the lower level employees who look after office files and other things in departments.
Besides, allotment of land for Mantralaya Colony is pending for long, said the employees. The employees’ union is demanding alternate housing facility for the staff whose official houses are being vacated for the smart city project.

Over 60 employees are getting affected due to it. They are getting notices to vacate the houses, but no alternate satisfactory housing arrangement has been made for them yet.

Nayak said the employees’ union is also firm on its demand to remove IAS Ashok Kumar Varnwal from the CM office. A delegation led by employees’ union and Varnwal entered into an argument a day earlier. The officer has been “unable to handle employee related issues” and the employees’ union do not want to interact with him further for their demands, he added.
