Rape case registered against DySP on CM’s direction

On the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to not spare anyone found guilty, a deputy superintendent of police rank officer of Uttar Pradesh Police faces legal action after being booked on charges of raping a woman by promising to marry her.

The case was registered against the DySP in Pratapgarh where he was posted earlier, police said on Wednesday.
Reports said that the victim, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, accused the officer of raping her in 2019 on the false promise of marrying her but later denying it, police said.

“An FIR on charges of rape was registered against former DySP Navneet Nayak on Tuesday evening, based on a complaint of a woman, who alleged that in 2019, during his posting at circle officer, he raped her after promising to marry her,” Additional Superintendent of Police in Pratapgarh, Surendra Dwivedi, said on Wednesday.
The victim disclosed that she became friendly with Nayak after knowing each other through Facebook. She is said to have visited Pratapgarh several times where on the promise of marrying her, the officer sexually exploited her in the transit hostel and even in some local hotels.

The woman also alleged that when she asked the officer to marry her, Nayak threatened her with life and asked her to leave the district.

She also claimed to have reported the matter to the local police, saying no action was taken as the accused was a senior police officer. Subsequently, she wrote to the chief minister after which the probe was ordered.
The officer, presently posted in Shahjahanpur, was suspended after the charges levelled against him by the woman were found to be true during a preliminary probe ordered by the then superintendent of police in Pratapgarh. The probe report was sent to the state government for further action.

The FIR was registered on charges of rape and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Dwivedi said, adding that the report was lodged on directions of the government.

He said the woman’s statement would be recorded before a magistrate, adding that a detailed probe was underway.
Surprisingly, the accused DySP is yet to be arrested in the matter.
