Rohit Sharma says he is ‘hurting’ after India collapse for 46 against New Zealand in 1st Test | Cricket News

India skipper Rohit Sharma took onus for his team’s horror innings against New Zealand on Thursday, saying that as a captain, it was his call to bat first under the overcast conditions in Bengaluru
“I am hurting to see this score of 46 as a captain as it was my call to bat first. But one or two bad calls in a year is quite alright,” Rohit said at the day-end press conference.
“We thought the pitch would be flatter. It was a misjudgment on my part,” he added.
Talking about Rishabh Pant, who had to leave the ground after getting hit on his knee cap a Ravindra Jadeja delivery, Rohit said that the keeper has swelling on his operated knee but hoped the wicketkeeper batter can return to the field on Friday.
“Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his knee cap, the same leg which he has done a surgery. So, he has got a little bit of swelling on it and the muscles are quite tender at this point of time,” Rohit told in the post-day press meet.
But Rohit allayed any major concerns surrounding the fitness of Pant, and said the 27-year-old returned to the dressing room as a “precautionary measure.” “It is a precautionary measure. We do not want to take a risk. Rishabh does not want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg,” he said.
“So, that was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow,” added Rohit.

Earlier, Pant, who made 20, was the top-scorer in India’s asmal innings of 46.
