Why RSS doesn’t want Shivraj Singh Chouhan as leader of opposition in MP
BHOPAL: After the shock defeat of BJP in Madhya Pradesh assembly elections and the anointment of Kamal Nath as chief minister + , all eyes are now on the post of leader of opposition (LoP).
While some BJP leaders, including former minister Gaurishankar Bisen, were quick to suggest that Shivraj Singh Chouhan be made LoP in the 15th Vidhan Sabha + , RSS and senior leadership in MP are keen on handing over the responsibility to leaders like Narottam Mishra or Gopal Bhargava.
RSS sources disclosed that BJP performed badly in the polls because of discontentment among a large section of workers with the leadership. Owing to this, grass-root workers did not go all out to ensure the party’s victory.
It was also observed that appointing a Brahmin as LoP would douse the anger of upper caste voters, who had played spoilsport during the polls.
Sources said the Sangh Parivar was now more keen on preparations for Lok Sabha polls. To achieve a cent per cent target in the state, the RSS want the state leadership to be more active and focused on better connect with voters. Sangh has also collected feedback from parliamentary constituencies regarding the performance and public connect of sitting MPs. In such a situation, the role of Shivraj Singh Chouhan would be more important than that of an LoP, said sources.
