3 MLAs among 10 hurt as stage caves in at BJP farmer rally
Indore: At least 10 people, including three BJP MLAs, suffered minor injuries when a stage erected by the opposition party for Kisan Aakrosh Rally collapsed on Tuesday.
The stage set up at Rajmohalla Square suddenly caved in apparently due to overcrowding as workers were waiting for party national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya. About 70 people, including local BJP leaders and party’s elected representatives and media persons, were on the dais when the incident occurred at 1.30 pm.
At least 10 people, including BJP MLAs Mahendra Hardia, Usha Thakur and Malini Gaud – who is also Mayor – were injured.
Former BJP MLA Rajesh Sonkar also suffered minor injuries in the incident. Sonkar and Hardia and others were rushed to hospital in an ambulance whereas Gaud and Thakur reached hospital by their own vehicles.
An ambulance was seen ferrying some of the injured. None of the BJP leaders suffered serious injuries, city BJP media in-charge Devkinandan Tiwari said.
“Thakur sustained hairline fracture in her hand whereas others received minor injuries,” said BJP city chief Gopi Nema.
The BJP had organised the rally to protest against “non-fulfillment” of promises made to farmers by the states Congress government, which assumed office in December last year.
Leaders of the main opposition party said the Kamal Nath government had “failed” to fulfil its promise of waiving farm loans made during the assembly elections.
