435/5! India record highest ODI total against Ireland, become first Asian women’s team to smash 400+ total | Cricket News
Smriti Mandhana-led India went on a rampage at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot as they became the first Asian team to record a 400-plus score in women’s ODIs against Ireland in the third match of the series on Wednesday.
After the captain Mandhana smashed a record 10th ODI century in only 70 balls, the fastest an Indian woman, her opening partner Pratika Rawal marched to her maiden ODI century in 100 balls to continue the onslaught. Rawal converted her maiden century into a hefty 154 off 129 balls with 20 fours and 1 six. She became only the second Indian woman opener after Deepti Sharma to record a 150-plus score in ODIs.
Rawal was joined Richa Ghosh at No. 3. The wicket-keeper waltzed to a 42-ball 59 with 10 fours and a maximum as India romped past 400, joining reigning world champions Australia and New Zealand as the only teams to have crossed the mark in women’s ODIs.
India bettered their previous highest score of 370/5 also set against Ireland at the same venue three days ago and eventually finished on 435/5 in 50 overs – the fourth-highest women’s ODI score. Overall, New Zealand’s 491/4 against Ireland in 2018 in Dublin remains the benchmark in women’s ODIs. The White Ferns have crossed the 400-run mark on four different instances while the Irish women bear the ignominy of conceding as many scores in four different matches.
Australia were the first team to breach the landmark, having recorded their highest W-ODI total of 412/5 against Denmark in Mumbai in the 1997 ODI World Cup.
