5 uncapped players to track at IPL auction: Spinner with 90 wickets in a year, emerging U19 star, big-hitting batter from Kanpur | Cricket News

While Indian Premier League auctions tend to start with a bang, with the big-money signings coming up early in the sets, there is always intrigue around which uncapped Indian player goes well above their base price for a big payday. The auction for IPL 2024 will take place on Tuesday in Dubai, and 200 of the names regered are uncapped Indian players. Here’s a look at five names that could attract interest from the franchises.
Shahrukh Khan, 28
Lower-order batsman, off-spinner
One of the more surprising names on the released players l, Tamil Nadu allrounder Shahrukh Khan comes into the auction pool with a reputation of being a big hitter in the middle order but yet to truly find his place in the IPL. Having played 33 matches in the IPL for Punjab, Shahrukh had a strike rate of 160+ in 2023 but struggled for consency. His potential, however, will tempt many franchises. While he didn’t have the best of domestic seasons, Shahrukh was the leading wicket-taker in TNPL and his bowling is yet to be seen as a factor at the IPL level.
Kartik Tyagi,23
Fast bowler
Another player who has plenty of promise but success at IPL level has been sporadic, Tyagi is a potential punt for any team looking for a good domestic pacer option to bolster their bowling. The last three seasons haven’t been the best for the right-arm pacer who made his mark in the 2020 U19 World Cup, but his match-winning last over for RR in IPL 2021 against Punjab is a reminder of what he brings to the table.
Sameer Rizvi, 20
Top-order batsman
One of the two highly talked-about youngsters from Kanpur, UP, along with Swastik Chikkara (another one to keep an eye on), Rizvi comes with a reputation for big-hitting. In Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Rizvi was among the top 10 six-hitters, with 18 maximums, striking at 139.89. The 20-year-old hit a six every 11 balls he faced. In the UP T20 league, he regered the highest individual score of 122 as well as the fastest century that came off 47 balls. Among batters to score at least 100 runs, he had the best strike rate in the tournament at 188.80, where he was also the leading six-hitter overall.

Arshin Kulkarni, 18
Fast-bowler, opening batsman
A top-order batter who can bowl seam up. Arshin has that ever-elusive skillset in Indian cricket that could make franchises take a punt. The Impact Player rule has perhaps made the bit-parts allrounder role not that important but the U19 captain could well find takers for his potential. He scored a century opening the batting and bowled his full quota of overs in the recent quadrangular U19 series final. He also impressed against Afghanan at the U19 Asia Cup, scoring 70 and returning impressive bowling figures of 8-0-29-3.

Manav Suthar, 21
Left-arm spinner

Domestic left-arm spinners are always valued IPL teams and one of the names to keep an eye out for is Manav Suthar. The 21-year-old had a stellar domestic season in 2022-23, where he bagged 90 wickets in a year. He was the leading wicket-taker for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy with 39 wickets in six games. Before that, he had bagged 14 wickets in seven U-25 One Day meets and then took 37 wickets in the CK Nayudu Trophy. Manav was with Gujarat Titans as a net bowler and was also part of MI’s talent development squad. His performance against Pakan A in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup, where he picked up 3/26, would also help his cause.
