Israel carried out major strikes against the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah during an offensive last year. That conflict began in October 2023 when Hezbollah fired at Israeli positions along the border in support of Hamas at the start of the Gaza war.
A US-brokered ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel in November ended the fighting. The agreement required Lebanon to seize all “unauthorised” weapons in the country, while Israel agreed to stop offensive operations against Lebanese targets.
