We beat them in their backyard, so there is no question of worrying when we play at home: Mohammed Shami after India’s win over AUS in first ODI

To Mohammed Shami, the current Indian bowling attack isn’t concerned about being belted on flat tracks in white ball cricket.
“Hum kisi bhi condition mein honge, hum sabse age hai (We are ahead of every team irrespective of the conditions),” was the answer that met the question in the press conference after India’s five wicket win in the first ODI against Australia on Friday.
To add to it, the 32-year-old said, “Humne kar ke bhi dikhaya hai. Humne unko ghar pe jake bhi haraya hai toh apne ghar mein toh sochne ka sawal hi nahi hai (We have shown it in the past too. We have beaten them {Australia} in their backyard so there is no question of worrying when we are playing at home).”

With the ODI World Cup later this year in India, there have been speculations of high scoring tracks being on offer. However, the match on Friday at the Wankhede Stadium was anything but as India bundled Australia out for 188 before taking a few hits on the way to chasing it down with 61 deliveries to spare and five wickets in hand.
Shami, who was the quick with the most wickets (9) in the recently concluded Test series, would lead the way with the ball, picking three wickets. As did his new ball partner, Mohammed Siraj.
“It has been a long time since Bumrah has not been playing. It is our hard luck that he is not there. But we have a very good overall bowling unit for both white and red balls. We support each other a great deal,” Shami said on his partnership with the 29-year-old.

“Siraj has been playing for a while, he has the confidence. It is important to see how well the other bowler is doing when bowling in partnerships. We try to bowl as tight as possible, keeping the ball in specific patches. As a senior bowler you have to lead the way,” he added.
He’d further add that with big games coming up such as the World Test Championship Final in June and the ODI World Cup starting October, it was crucial that workload management came into the picture.
“There is a lot of time left for the WTC final and World Cup. As a player, you cannot think that far ahead. You never know what will happen tomorrow.” “But you have to be smart as far as workload is concerned, you have to work on your strengths. You know your workload as per international cricket. It is better to take it series series or match match,” he said.
