Watch: Bengaluru school kids overwhelmed after meeting Olympic gold medall Neeraj Chopra

When Tokyo Olympics gold medall Neeraj Chopra visited Vishwa Vidyapeeth, a school in the Bengaluru suburb of Yelahanka, on Saturday, it turned out to be a dream come true for many kids, some of whom were overcome emotion.
In a video posted on his social media accounts, Chopra is greeted gleeful kids, one of whom breaks down into tears after meeting him. When the 24-year-old asked her why she was crying, she replied: “My idol is in front of me right now.”
In the video, another kid can also be heard asking, “Sir, are you actually Neeraj Chopra?”

The javelin thrower is training for the start of the athletics season. Chopra recently moved his training base from UK’s Loughborough University to South Africa’s Potchefstroom. Currently in between training stints, he is in India for a host of events, including the Indian Sports Honours 2023 awards.
“It makes me really happy whenever I am able to put a smile on the faces of young children, and this was even more special because they were not expecting me to be there. I had some time between arriving in Bengaluru and going to an event, and I am happy that I could make the best use of it. I hope that meeting me will inspire them in their journey as young athletes,” said Chopra, who then spent some time with the kids speaking to them, signing autographs and recalling his Olympic gold medal-winning feat at Tokyo.
Chopra will now travel to the Inspire Institute of Sport in Bellary.
