‘I wish this craziness never ends’: Lionel Messi posts after Argentina’s friendly win over Curacao
After he scored a hat-trick in Argentina’s 7-0 friendly win over Curacao on Tuesday, Lionel Messi took to social media to wish that “the craziness never ends”. Messi and the rest of the national team have been the toast of the town in Argentina ever since they won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year.
“What a nice way to close these dates, impressive today all the people in Santiago del Estero. I wish we can continue to share together many moments like these and that this craziness never ends!!!” Messi wrote in a post accompanied with images of the team celebrating its trophy win in Qatar.
The 35-year-old Messi has been mobbed on multiple occasions after returning to Argentina for the friendly games this month. A life-size statue of him was also unveiled at the CONMEBOL headquarters in Asuncion.
“We will never stop celebrating and I think it’s fair and deserved,” Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni told reporters after the game. “I hope there will be more (Messi goals), he deserves all the praise and it’s good that these goals had been on Argentine soil, that has a special value too.”

The game against Curacao also saw Messi surpass the 100-goal mark for the national team. He opened the scoring after 20 minutes with Giovani Lo Celso setting him up. All he needed to do was slot home a shot from the centre of the box. Messi scored his second of the night after curling the ball in at the far post in the 33rd minute.

He wrapped up his hat-trick in the 37th minute with another ass from Lo Celso. After his hat-trick, Messi trails only two players on the l of most goals scored for national teams: Portugal’s Criano Ronaldo (122), and Iran’s Ali Daei (109).
