Michael Slater charged with assaulting police during a heated confrontation

Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater has been charged with assaulting police during a heated confrontation in Queensland.
As per media reports, the alleged incident took place on Friday and it left one officer with a cut to their hand, a police spokesperson said.
53-year-old Slater is also charged with two counts of obstructing police and will face court on 2 May. The former batter was part of the Australian cricket team from 1993 to 2001, playing 74 Tests.
He then forged a career as a high-profile cricket commentator but was let go Australia’s Channel Seven in 2021.
Slater had also charges of domestic violence which got dismissed on mental health grounds in a Sydney local court last year.
Slater, who worked as a television commentator after retiring from international cricket, was charged New South Wales state police last October with stalking and intimidation of his ex-partner.
He later breached a restraining order using a mobile phone to call and send dozens of text messages to his ex-partner and, in December, was ordered to check into a mental health facility as a condition of bail.
