Is Shikhar Dhawan anchoring the innings a strategy bound to fail?

Punjab Kings won two of their first three games with Dhawan making 225 runs at a strike rate of 149. But in a format where batsmen can’t afford to hold back, more so with the Impact Player rule, it waits to be seen how this strategy plays out.
During the three games Dhawan has played in IPL 2023, he has been in the middle for 54.3 of Punjab’s 60 overs. Facing 42 percent of the overall deliveries.
Batting coach, Wasim Jaffer elaborated on the thinking behind it after the game against Rajasthan Royals, “We wanted one of the top three to bat through the 20 overs, and he did exactly that. He picked up his strike rate, it was a lot better in the second half. Somebody as experienced as him, knows how to pace the innings.” [Read more]
