Yashasvi Jaiswal marks 1000th IPL game with a maiden league ton
After a short pre-match ceremony that saw skippers of the two teams, Kumar Sangakkara and Sachin Tendulkar receiving mementos, Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal serenaded the 1000th IPL game with his first hundred in IPL against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
Jaiswal, who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket, amassed 124 runs off 62 deliveries in an innings that comprised of 16 fours and eight maximums. It was also the joint-highest individual score in the franchise’s hory alongside Jos Buttler’s 124 against Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2021.
The southpaw would end up scoring more than half his side’s runs as Rajasthan posted 212 off their 20 overs.

“I think I enjoyed every part of my innings,” Jaiswal said mid-innings. “I was thinking right, planning right and hitting the right shots. I have practised all the shots that I want to play. Every time I hold a bat, be it in the nets or the match, I feel the same way. The things I do in practice will reflect in the game. I have worked a lot on my batting, my skills with Zubin sir right through the season, white-ball and red-ball.”
He further added, “When I got to the hundred, it was an amazing feeling and this is what I wanted. It is really special, I need to enjoy it but I need to look forward and keep going. I never thought about slowing down, I know my role in the team, I need to keep going and make sure run-rate is high and contribute as much as I can in whatever way possible to the team.”
Jaiswal is now the leading run scorer in the competition with 428 runs in his nine outings so far. The southpaw has also been impressive in the strike rate column, having scored at 159.70.
