My heartbeat was touching 200 in the last over: Varun Chakravarthy after heroics vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
Kolkata Knight Riders’ spinner Varun Chakravarthy had the tall task of defending just 9 runs off the last over against Sunrisers Hyderabad and came through with flying colours as KKR defeated SRH 5 runs.
“My heartbeat was touching 200 in the last over, but I wanted them to make hit to the longer part of the ground. The ball was slipping a lot and my best bet was longer side and that was my only hope. My first over I went for 12 runs, Markram hit me for 2 fours and that’s how the game goes,” Chakravarthy, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, said in the presentation ceremony.
Talking about what the difference between this year’s bowling and last year’s, he said, “Last year I was bowling around 85kmph, I was trying out many things and I realized that I needed to work on my revolutions and I did work on it.”
In the match, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh came up with a fruitful 61-run partnership to help KKR post 171 for nine and then their bowlers, especially Shardul Thakur (2/23) and Vaibhav Arora (2/32), helped the two-time IPL champions limit Sunrisers Hyderabad to 166 for eight in 20 overs.
KKR earned their fourth victory of the season and are now on eight points, while SRH, who remained stranded on six points, suffered a huge body blow to their chances of making the playoffs.
