This is some of the best batting I’ve seen in a while: Virat Kohli sings praise of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record-breaking innings
“Wow, this is some of the best batting I’ve seen in a while. What a talent!”
Virat Kohli couldn’t help but tag Yashasvi Jaiswal on his Instagram story, in awe of the southpaw, who scored the quickest fifty in IPL hory on Thursday in a nine wicket win for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders. Chasing 150, Rajasthan would wrap up the game with nine wickets in hand and 41 deliveries to spare, courtesy of Jaiswal’s 98 not out off 47 deliveries.
“Special knock. Special player. Take a bow,” tweeted Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul would post a tipping hat GIF. It was his and Pat Cummins’ record that the Rajasthan opener had broken. The duo had scored the joint quickest fifties in the league’s hory off 14 balls. Jaiswal got his in 13 deliveries, one short of equalling Yuvraj Singh’s T20 record of 12 deliveries.
150 runs chased down in just 13.1 overs. @rajasthanroyals have won this in a jiffy with Yashasvi Jaiswal smashing an incredible 98* from just 47 balls.

“This is always in my mind, to go out there and play well. It was a nice feeling today. It is not like everything I wanted happens, I prepare well and I trust myself. I know the results will come,” Jaiswal, who raced to his fifty in a record 13 balls, said at the post-match presentation.
“The winning shot was a great feeling, I wanted to finish the game and winning the game has been my motto. I’m blessed and grateful, I’m trying my best. I think the run rate was the only thing in our mind, me and Sanju bhai were only talking about finishing the game quickly.”
Earlier during the powerplay, Jaiswal was involved in the unfortunate run out of Jos Buttler at the other end as the duo hesitated in the venture of a single. “I think it happens in the game, it gives me responsibility to do even better. And Sanju bhai came and said ‘keep playing my game, and not think about that run out’,” Jaiswal said post match.
On batting alongside Jaiswal at the other end, Rajasthan skipper Samson said, “I didn’t have to do anything today. Just put bat on ball and watch him play. We are used to it now, even the bowlers know how he goes in the powerplay. He enjoys batting in the powerplay.”
