Nathan Lyon out for rest of Ashes, Australia skipper Pat Cummins confirms

Nathan Lyon who came to bat with a significant calf strain during Australia’s second innings in the Lord’s Test against England will most probably miss the rest of the Ashes, as per skipper Pat Cummins.
Asked during the post match interview if Lyon was done for the series, Cummins said, “I wasn’t particularly happy but he was pretty keen to get out there. He did an amazing job. I would imagine he is (out of the series).”
Lyon had suffered the injury on Thursday while running to catch a fly ball in the field during day two of the second Ashes test at Lord’s. He pulled up and grabbed his calf. He needed help to slowly limp back to the pavilion. On Saturday too, he looked to be in blinding pain while hobbling across the pitch to complete a single but still opted to carry on.

Lyon ultimately was dismissed for 4 and received a standing ovation from the Aussie players and the crowd as the World Test champions finished at 279 runs, establishing a lead of 371 runs.

“I’ve been having conversations since it happened with our medical team,” Lyon had told reporters at stumps on Saturday. I knew the risks. But I’ll do anything for this team.

Meanwhile, Australia won an action-packed second Ashes test at Lord’s on Sunday 43 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-test series, despite a superb rearguard innings of 155 from England captain Ben Stokes.
Stokes appeared fired up after the controversial stumping of team mate Jonny Bairstow and began to smash sixes and fours around the ground. But he eventually skied a catch to wicket keeper Alex Carey, and Australia’s fast bowlers wrapped up England’s last three wickets to seal the victory.
