‘At no stage he was panicking’: Rohit Sharma on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s marathon knock

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal after his match-winning 171-run knock in the first Test against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica.
Speaking after the game Rohit said, “He has the talent, he has shown us in the past that he is ready. Came and batted sensibly. The temperament was also tested, at no stage he was panicking.”
Jaiswal and Rohit put on a record 229 opening wicket partnership and later Jaiswal went on to put another 110-run partnership with Virat Kohli. Neither pace nor spin fazed Jaiswal, and one felt it would be only a batting error or loss of patience that could prove to be his downfall.

“The chats were to remind him that ‘you belong here. You have done the hard yards, enjoy your time here,” Rohit added.
India beat West Indies an innings and 141 runs on the third day. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up seven wickets in the second innings and ended up with 12 wickets in the game. “I would like to start saying it was a great effort with the ball,” Rohit said
“Getting them out for 150 set the game for us. We knew batting would get tough, it wasn’t easy to score runs. We knew we wanted to bat only once and bat long. Get over 400 runs and then came out and bowled really well,” he added.

The hosts’ totals of 150 and 130 were comfortably outscored debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal, telling the tale of India’s domination in Dominica.
