Mitchell Marsh named as Australia’s new T20 captain | Cricket News
All-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been named Australia’s new T20 captain and will lead the team in the three-match T20 series against South Africa.
“Marsh has been named as skipper for the South Africa series only, with Cricket Australia yet to commit to a full-time replacement for Finch, who played his final T20 International last October,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.
“Mitch has long been a senior player within the white-ball structure, with this an opportunity for him to add to his leadership skills at international level,” said selection chair George Bailey.
“We look forward to him taking that step in South Africa.”
Marsh has played a key role in Australia lifting the 2021 T20 World Cup held in Dubai, where he has scored a match winnings 77 not out from 50 balls in the final against New Zealand.
Australia will travel to South Africa to play three T20Is and five ODIs between August 31 to September 17.
