BCCI president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajeev Shukla to visit Lahore for Asia Cup | Cricket News

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajeev Shukla will be travelling to Lahore for Asia Cup following an invite from the hosts Pakan Cricket Board. This will be first visit any BCCI office bearers to the neighbouring country since the political tension arouse between both countries and brought bilateral series between the two teams to a grinding halt.
The Indian Express understands that both the office bearers will watching Sri Lanka vs Afghanan group match to be played in Gaddafi Stadium on September 3. “BCCI president Binny and vice president Shukla will be going to Pakan to watch few game. PCB had invited BCCI and as one of the key member of ACC, Binny and Shukla will be travelling to Pakan,” a BCCI official confirmed to The Indian Express.
The tournament is being played in Pakan and Sri Lanka after India refused to travel to its neighbouring country. Despite lot of push from PCB’s side, BCCI secretary Jay Shah who is also the chief of Asian Cricket Council had revealed that the Indian team won’t travel to Pakan and following multiple round of talks, it was decided to conduct the event in a hybrid model. Four matches will be played in Pakan with Lahore hosting three matches after the tournament kick starts in Multan with Pakan taking on Nepal on August 30.Most Read

The Indian team will be playing all their games in Sri Lanka and much awaited India vs Pakan will be played on September 2 in Pallekele.
The last time any BCCI representative travelled to Pakan was during India tour to Pakan for Asia Cup in 2008. However, post Mumbai terror attack cricketing ties came to an halt and both the teams contest only in multi nation tournament.

India and Pakan are clubbed in the same group along with Nepal and have a strong chance of meeting again in the Super 4 round in Colombo. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanan make the other group. The top two teams from the group stage advance to the Super 4, where each team will play each other in a round-robin format. The top two will play the final at R Premadasa Stadium on September 18.
