India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 report card: Kuldeep Yadav stars with 4 wickets as IND survive late scare to defeat SL 41 runs | Cricket News
India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 report card: India survived a late scare from Dunith Wellalage, who was in blering form with the bat after taking his maiden fifer in the first innings, to defeat Sri Lanka
Earlier, the famed Indian batting lineup were rattled Wellalage and Charith Asalanka who shared 9 wickets between them as India were skittled out for 213.
Only skipper Rohit Sharma stuck to his guns and scored a fighting 53 but Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya all failed to score big as the Lankan spinners ran rampant.
Here’s a quick form-check of Team India after the game:
Rohit Sharma
The Indian skipper continued his rich vein of form in this tournament as he brought up his second fifty in as many matches. He kept the Lankan attack at bay and confidently went about his business but he too could not cope with Dunith Wellalage’s spin as he was cleaned up the Lankan spinner.
Shubman Gill
Gill started well for the second match running but he could not convert it into a huge total this time around and was cleaned up Wellalage.
Virat Kohli
Kohli did not have a great outing this time around after his blering 122 against Pakan on Monday. He could not control Wellalage’s delivery and chipped it tamely to Shanaka at midwicket.
Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan came into bat when India was in a bit of a problem, having lost Rohit, Kohli and Gill to Wellalage. The southpaw would take the fight to the spinner with a four early on but then settled into a more cautious rhythm. However, he could not get a big score tonight as he was dismissed Asalanka for 33 runs.
KL Rahul
Wellalage was the man once again as he wreaked havoc on the Indian batting lineup and he took out the in-form Rahul as well. Rahul had started slowly and was ramping up the aggression until he fell to the wily Lankan spinner for 39.
Hardik Pandya
Hardik could not fare any better than most of the Indian batters as he departed for just 5 runs becoming the 5th victim of the rampaging Wellalage. With the ball, he snapped up Maheesh Theekshana for just 2 runs.
Axar Patel
Axar Patel was the only batter who posed some problems for Sri Lanka in the late overs and added 26 runs at the death. But he was ultimately snapped up Theekshana as India finished at 213.
Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja’s less than stellar batting form continued in this match when he was caught behind Kusal Mendis from a frankly unplayable delivery Asalanka, scoring just 4 runs. With the ball though, he began with a bang taking out the Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka for 9. He also took out a well-set Dhananjaya de Silva who had built a decent partnership with Wellalage.

Bumrah struck in his second over as he sent back Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka in just his second over. He would continue this fiery spell when he sent back wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis as well. Earlier though, he wasn’t much help with the bat as he was cleaned up Asalanka for just 5 runs.
Mohammed Siraj
Siraj was the last man standing for India with the bat and he was also the focal point of the bowling attack as he snapped up the other Lankan opener Karunaratne for just 2.
Kuldeep Yadav
Yadav could not shine with the bat as he became the fourth victim to a blering spell Asalanka but with the ball, he was almost unplayable in vast stretches of the match. His efforts would finally bear fruit in his 4th over when Sadeera Samarawickrama was bamboozled the delivery and got stumped. He would then pick up Asalanka, Kasun Rajitha and Matheesha Pathirana to end with figures of 4/43.
