‘For me, this is the better win’: Gautam Gambhir on India’s win over Sri Lanka in Colombo | Cricket News

Team India earned a hard-fought win against Sri Lanka and booked a place in the Asia Cup 2023 finals on Tuesday.
With a thrilling defense of a 213-run score, India bowled out Sri Lanka for 172 in 41.3 overs and ended the Islanders’ 13-match winning streak in the ODI format.
Chasing the tricky target, Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals as Kuldeep Yadav returned with impressive figures of 4/43, while Jasprit Bumrah (2/30) picked up early wickets to hand India the win.
India was playing for the third straight day after its Super 4 game against Pakan was stretched into the reserve day because of rain before it thumped its archrival 228 runs.
But former India opener Gautam Gambhir deemed India’s win over Sri Lanka as even more ‘convincing’ than against Pakan. Most Read

“For me, this is the better win, and it’s the better win because they were defending 214 runs and the conditions were very dewy,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

“If you saw, the ball was getting wet, and the amount of spin was unpredictable. Despite that, Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling attack was excellent. He showcased another variety, a kind of X factor. He took 2 wickets up front, Mohammed Siraj took wickets where they set the momentum, and the tempo for the spinners. On such a pitch, taking wickets with a new ball is necessary, and who better than Jasprit Bumrah to do so,” he explained.

Meanwhile, former India allrounder Irfan Pathan also lauded India’s performance and said, “It was an absolutely superb performance to watch today. India has secured two victories – one of which was easy, against Pakan, and the other, which was hard-fought against Sri Lanka. I think that when you fight so hard and then win, you become a much better team, you move forward fixing your makes.”
