Adding to his two fifties at the 2023 Asia Cup, Shubman Gill scored his fifth ODI hundred against Bangladesh in India’s final Super 4 game on Friday in Colombo.
Chasing 266, India lost two wickets in the powerplay with captain Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma having been sent back in the hut. Whilst the wickets kept falling at one end, Gill would marathon his way to a 117-ball hundred in Colombo. An innings that saw six shots bounce on their way to the boundary rope while four travelled all the way over.
On his way to a first triple figure score in the ongoing Asia Cup, Gill would also top the run scoring charts at the tournament – surpassing Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis (253 runs).
In 2023, Gill has been the top scorer in ODIs with 1000 plus runs at an average exceeding 72. The 24-year-old had also finished IPL 2023 as the top run scorer for Gujarat Titans.
