‘Rohit Sharma won 5 IPL titles, many didn’t even win once’: Gautam Gambhir praises India captain after Asia Cup title win | Cricket News

India lifted the Asia Cup after beating defending champions Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday.
Mohammed Siraj starred with a career-best 6/21 as the Rohit Sharma-led India romped home to a target of 51 with ten wickets in hand at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Electing to bat, Sri Lanka were bundled out for a paltry 50 in 15.2 overs, with five batters getting ducks.
Siraj’s fiery display of pace bowling, couple with Sharma’s aggressive captaincy, gave India a timely boost before their home World Cup beginning next month.
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir lavished praise on Sharma and said, “There was never a doubt about Rohit the captain. He won 5 IPL titles. Many didn’t even win once.”Most Read

However, Gambhir quickly pointed out that Sharma will have his real test after a fortnight or so. “But his real test will come in the next 15 days. You have your best 15-18 players in the dressing room now. If they cannot deliver, there will be question marks,” Gambhir told on Star Sports.

“After every World Cup, if the captain is unable to deliver then questions will be raised. Virat Kohli faced it. Rahul Dravid faced it in 2007. If India fail to deliver in 2023, then questions will be raised on Rohit’s captaincy. But this team has the ability to make the World Cup final,” he reminded.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also hailed his team for the performance and said the side will cherish this win for a very long time. “It was a great performance, especially to come and play like that in a final. Shows the mentality of the team. Very clinical. A performance like that will be cherished for a very long time,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
