Carry bag ban : Governor yet to sign ordinance in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: Eleven days after the plastic carry bag ban was scheduled to be imposed in Madhya Pradesh from May 1, the state government has failed to issue the ordinance to execute it. The ordinance is yet to be signed by the governor.

Talking to TOI, Maya Singh, minister for urban development and administration (UAD) said,”The process to issue the ordinance is on. It will go to the governor for approval before it is released.”
“We will release is as soon as possible”, she said.
In fact, the centre’s nod to ban carry bag was received on April 28. But the ordinance was delayed because the government did not do homework for issuing odinance, sources claimed.
Meanwhile, confusion prevailed across the state regarding the specifications of the polythene carry bags to be prohibited.
In Indore, the authorities have started “Seizing all the polythene material”, said Praveen Patni, state president of the plastic manufacturers association of the state.
He said that the manufacturers and traders have been asked to sell all the plastic material at a rate of Rs 5 per kg.
“More than 5000 labourers have been rendered jobless after 150 carry bag manufacturing units were closed down in Indore alone,” he said.
Depending on the mindset of officer, situation is different in different parts of the state, he said.
