‘There is a saying that one guy can’t win you a game, but Maxwell proved it wrong’: Wasim Akram and Misbah-Ul-Haq shower praise | Cricket News
Glenn Maxwell produced one of the most astonishing Cricket World Cup innings smashing 201 not out off 128 balls on Tuesday to lead Australia past Afghanan with 19 deliveries to spare and into the semifinals.
Maxwell regered his highest ODI score despite being unable to run between the wickets because of cramps and kept slashing the ball over the boundary without moving his legs as Australia chased down its target of 292. He hit 21 fours and 10 sixes, the last coming off the final ball of the match.
The allrounder came to the rescue after Australia slumped to 91/7 in reply to Afghanan’s 291/5.
Maxwell’s extraordinary knock led to former Pakan captains lauding his effort. “Unbelievable, one-man show. The stuff of legends. There is a saying that one guy can’t win you a game, but what an absolute lie. Maxwell showed one man can indeed win a game for his team,” said Wasim Akram on A Sports.
“There was a need for willpower and he showed that. He was suffering from cramps, and cricketers can tell you how cramps can be painful, but he stood there and battled it out,” he added.
Pat Cummins finished with 12 unbeaten runs off 68 balls, and Akram pointed out how this was also a sensible innings.
“Credit to Pat Cummins for situational awareness and giving Maxwell the strike,” he said. Most Read

“Maxwell showed he is the best one-day player in the player smashing 201 off 128. I have played cricket for 20 years and working on it for the same time, but I have never seen such a fighting knock,” he added.
Meanwhile, another ex-Pakan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq spoke about Maxwell’s sheer strength which was in full view at the Wankhede. “His range of shots was terrific to watch, and due to his cramps, he used his hands to good effect, and that, we can gauge his hand speed, power and connection of shots,” explained Misbah.
Australia joined India and South Africa in the last four and damaged Afghanan’s unlikely bid to reach the semifinals.
