‘It was as quiet as a library’: Pat Cummins recalls Virat Kohli’s dismissal in World Cup final | Cricket News

Pat Cummins admitted that the Virat Kohli’s wicket the most satisfying moment of the ODI World Cup as the entire Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad went into silent mode.
“We’re in a huddle after the wicket of Kohli in the final & (Steve) Smith says,’Boys, len to the crowd.’ And we just took a moment of pause, and it was as quiet as a library, 100,000-plus Indians there & it was so quiet. I’ll savour that moment for a long time,” Cummins told ‘The Age’ during an interaction.
Australia won their sixth title beating India six wickets.
In his interview with the ABC news, Cummins admitted that he was unfazed the “sea of blue” in the stands and just wanted to shut them all up as he has said in his pre-match press conference.

“I told myslef, this is a once in a life time opportunity, so whatever happens today, this is a special day. We try to soak it in. It was just a sea of blue. It was not like a IPL crowd. where you can spot people wearing casual dress. Everyone was wearing the blue Indian jersey. I was just thibking that it will be really satisying that if we shut them all up,” said Cummins.
Cummins also revealed why he opted to field after winning the toss.
“It’s funny in cricket. The conventional wisdom is you’ve got to bat in the final, whereas I think the last five ODI finals have been won the team bowling first,” he said.

“Of course, you sound out other people. Everyone was pretty sure it just felt like a bowling day.”
Cummins, who has led the Australian team to World Test Championship and ODI World Cup glory in 2023, said that despite a long season, his unit is raring to go during the coming Australian Summer which starts with Test series against Pakan on December 14.
“Realically, the word rest and rotated gets thrown around a lot, but you never miss a Test if you are fully fit,” he told reporters.

“While over the last couple of years, we might have been rested from the odd game, the bulk of work we’ve been able to do is because of those small gaps. If we are fully fit, we won’t be resting.” He recalled that as pacers, the players are bound to feel some niggle somewhere or the other but they should not be bogged down it.
“You are always dealing with something as a bowler. When your hamstring starts to feel, then you feel a pain somewhere else, then you wake up the next day, and it’s moved somewhere else,” Cummins continued.
Since taking over the captaincy, Cummins has been outspoken on social issues, which sparked backlash and claims from critics that he had become “too woke”.
“There’s some things that you don’t want to budge on,” Cummins said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.
“You can’t just leave your values at the door.”
Cummins admitted tha the criticism takes a toll.
“Sometimes it’s frustrating,” he said.
“You feel like you want to explain why you did what you did.
“But if you did that every time, you wouldn’t have a minute left in your day.”
