IND vs SA first Test: The start of the first Test match between India and South Africa has been delayed due to wet patches on the outfield, according to media reports from South Africa. The toss, which was to happen at 1 pm (9:30 am local time) has consequently been pushed ahead.
It is learnt that an inspection of the conditions will happen at 10 am local time (1.30pm ).
Even before the match, there had been predictions of heavy rains interrupting the first two days of the first IND vs SA Test at Centurion.
According to AccuWeather, there remains a 96% chance of rain during the day on Tuesday. The website also added that there was a 38 percent chance of thunderstorms, most likely between 7 and 9 am (local time). About four hours of rain is expected in Centurion on Tuesday. The city had experienced relentless rain over the past couple of days.
AccuWeather suggests 60% chance of rain in the night, which could have an impact on Day 2 of the Test. “Mainly cloudy with occasional rain and a thunderstorm,” says the website.
In fact, Team India had to cancel its practice session at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Monday, one day before the first Test because of heavy rain in the South African city.
The curator for the wicket, Brain Bloy, had said that there was heavy chance of rain on the first two days of the Boxing Day Test. “I don’t know what conditions will be like, whether we will get play on Day 1,” he had said before predicting cold conditions for the Test.
“You are seeing a forecast on Day 1 and Day 2. It doesn’t look very good. The sun is out for four days and, so there will be some purchases for spinners, offer turn and bounce; with the weather forecast, I don’t know how accurate it will be as there will be a lot of rain,” Bloy had told PTI on Saturday.
