Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri would have been ruthless…Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma might give another chance: Sanjay Manjrekar on Prasidh Krishna | Cricket News
On the same wicket, South African pacers were on the rampage in the first Test in Centurion, and the Indian fast bowlers struggled to make an impact. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj did bowl well, but the change bowlers, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur, could not keep the same pressure.
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar predicted that if it would have been Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri’s combination at the helm, Prasidh would have been dropped for the second Test in Cape Town starting on January 3rd.
The earlier team management of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri would have been ruthless. Virat and Ravi would have dropped the pacer after his performance,” Manjrekar said while speaking on ESPNcricinfo.
Prasidh, on his debut, struggled with accuracy and gave away easy boundaries in the first innings. Though there was an option of Mukesh Kumar in the squad, who played his first Test earlier this year in West Indies, the thinktank chose to go with the tall, lanky fast bowler.
“If Mukesh Kumar plays, I don’t think fans will have a problem,” Manjrekar would say
The 58-year-old also believes Prasidh might be given another chance. “Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma might give him another chance,” he said.
Along with Prasidh, Shardul too had a forgettable outing. However, because of his ability to contribute with the bat down the order, Manjrekar feels the bowling allrounder also may keep his place. “Shardul Thakur can bat. He plays in overseas matches as India is concerned about their batting. He will make it to the Playing XI.”
The South African seamers restricted India to 245 in the first innings on wicket. The visitors conceded 408 runs. Rohit’s men lost the first Test a whooping margin of an innings and 39 runs.
Avesh Khan has been added to the squad for the next Test.
