He backed it up with three more wickets in succession as Mahesh Pithiya, Bhargav Bhatt and AM Singh regered first-ball ducks. Kulwant became only the third Indian bowler to record a double hat-trick (four wickets in four balls) in First-Class cricket.
Delhi’s Shankar Saini (1988) and Jammu and Kashmir’s Mohammad Mudashir (2018) are the only other Indians to achieve the feat. Incidentally, Mudashir and Khejroliya are now the only bowlers to have bagged a double hat-trick in First-Class and a hat-trick in L-A cricket.
Kulwant completed the procession dismissing all-rounder Atit Sheth to claim his maiden First-Class five-wicket haul while Madhya Pradesh earned an innings and 52-run win over Baroda. They now sit atop Elite Group D with 26 points after six rounds.
Kulwant began his domestic cricket career with Delhi in 2017 but did not feature in any red-ball fixture since 2020 until the start of the ongoing season where he made a switch to MP. The 31-year-old, who has had brief stints in the IPL since 2017, is a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders outfit since the 2023 season.
