ICC WTC Points Table 2023-25 update: India second after win vs England in 3rd Test | Cricket News

India beat England a resounding 434-run margin in the third Test at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot to take a 2-1 lead in the series on Sunday.
The win helped India climb to the second spot in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table, behind New Zealand, who lead the charts with a points percentage (PCT) of 75 after four Tests. Defending champions Australia stand third with a 55 PCT after 10 matches.

Led Yashasvi Jaiswal’s belligerent second-innings double-hundred, India set a mammoth 557-run target for Ben Stokes’ side on Day Four. Jaiswal broke a heap of records as India posted 430 for four in the second essay. The visitors crumbled in the chase, eventually bundling for 122 as Ravindra Jadeja claimed a five-wicket haul at his home venue.
India’s win was their fourth in seven games this cycle. Meanwhile, England are languishing on eighth place after their fifth defeat. They have also lost 19 points due to slow over-rate offences thus far. Sri Lanka is at the bottom of the points table with two losses from as many games.
India’s win was their biggest margin of runs in Test cricket, beating their previous best of 372 runs against New Zealand in Mumbai in 2021. Incidentally, India’s biggest Test win innings also came in Rajkot when they trumped West Indies an innings and 272 runs in 2018.
The defeat was England’s second-heaviest loss in Tests behind a 562-run defeat to Australia at the Oval in 1934.
