Following the impressive Test series win against the BCCI is now considering a hike in the match fees for Tests, thus putting a premium on game’s longer format.The Indian Express has reported that board decided to redraft the salary structure in the wake of cricketers opting out of Ranji Trophy to save themselves for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
India regered their 17th straight Test series win at home after beating England five wickets in Ranchi. With Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami missing all four Tests and KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja missing in between, India took the field at Vizag, Rajkot and Ranchi with one of the most inexperienced XI. In absence of all these big names the debutants have make the opportunity count.
Team India captain Rohit Sharma had also make it clear that they will not be picking cricketers, who don’t want to play Test cricket.
“Jin logon ko bhookh hai, hum unhi logon ko mauka denge (We will give opportunities to only those who are hungry),” Rohit said.

“Agar hunger nahi hai to unko khila ke koi matlab nahi hai (There’s point in playing those who don’t have the hunger),” he said.
“I don’t see anyone in the team here who is not hungry. All the boys who are here and also those who are not, they all want to play. But the thing with Test cricket is that you get very few opportunities. If you don’t utilise them, they go away.”
The Indian captain has also made it clear that no matter how much cricketers make in the IPL, there is a drive among these youngsters to do well in the Test format.
“Test cricket is the toughest format. If you want to excel and achieve success in this format, you have to show the hunger.”
“Yeh pata chal jata hai kisko bhookh nahin hai aur kin logon ko yahan pe rehna nahin hai. Yeh pata chalta hai. Jo logon ko bhookh hai, tough conditions mein khelna hai, un logon ko preference diya jayega. (It becomes apparent who is not hungry and who does not want to stay here. Those who are hungry, who want to play in tough conditions, will be given preference). It’s very simple,” he said.
“IPL is a very good format for us, but this is the toughest format and difficult to excel. You have to work hard to win…the last three wins didn’t come easy, bowlers had to do long spell, batsmen had to grind it out. It’s tough,” he added.

The BCCI is working on the additional bonus a player will receive if he plays all Test series in a season. Currently, the BCCI pays Rs 15 lakh as match fees per Test, 6 lakh per ODI and 3 lakh for T20 internationals.
