IPL 2024: Pat Cummins appointed Sunrisers Hyderabad captain for upcoming season | Cricket News
SunRisers Hyderabad on Monday announced Australia’s World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins as their new captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Cummins, who was bought for a whopping Rs 20.5 crore in the auction last year, will take over the reins of the team from South Africa’s Aiden Markram, under whom the Orange Army had finished last in the 2023 season, winning just 4 out of 14 matches.
The one-time champions will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL 2024 opening fixture on March 23 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, according to the partial schedule that was released last week.
The full schedule for the upcoming season will be released when Election Commission of India’s decides the dates of the General Election which is expected to clash with the 2-month extravaganza.
As mentioned, SRH in 2023 had an ordinary campaign despite having a well-rounded squad. The Orange Army have only further bolstered their team this year with the likes of Cummins and Travis Head, both of whom played a significant part in helping Australia win the 2023 World Cup.
After the Kolkata match, Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Mumbai Indians on Match 27 at home before going up against the Gujarat Titans on Match 31 in Ahmedabad and Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on April 5.
