WTC 2023-25 Points Table update: India extend lead with 4-1 series win against England in Dharamsala | Cricket News

India extended their lead at the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table after thrashing England an innings and 64 runs in the fifth and final Test of the series at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday.
India’s comprehensive win was marked after they took a 259-run first-innings lead. R Ashwin, playing his 100th Test, followed his first-innings four-wicket haul with a five-wicket haul in the second. Ashwin eclipsed Anil Kumble’s tally of most five-fors for India with his 36th five-wicket haul.
The hosts then wrapped up the innings at 195 with stand-in skipper Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav wiping out the tail. Captain Rohit Sharma had not taken the field due to a stiff back.

Having moved to the top of the standings last week following Australia’s win over New Zealand, India extended their points percentage (PCT) from 64.5 to 68.51 with their sixth win in nine Tests this cycle, winning the current series 4-1. India had dropped the first Test in Hyderabad before making a remarkable turnaround with wins in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot and Ranchi. Meanwhile, England are languishing on eighth place after their seventh defeat. They have also lost 19 points due to slow over-rate offenses thus far. Sri Lanka is at the bottom of the points table with two losses from as many games.

New Zealand and Australia are currently locking horns in the second Test at the Hagley Oval in Chrchurch.
Rohit Sharma’s men will next host Bangladesh and New Zealand across five Tests between September and November this year before completing their WTC cycle with the BGT tour to Australia.
