Rishabh Pant roasts Michael Vaughan with single line on his own podcast; gives advice for England’s Bazballers | Cricket News
He has been away from the sport he loves for over a year now, but that has not dulled Rishabh Pant’s sense of humour.
As he prepares to show off his full range of strokes on the cricket field when he makes a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Delhi Capitals, he displayed his full range of verbal comebacks on a podcast with Australian legend Adam Gilchr and former England cricketer Michael Vaughan.
Invited for the Club Prairie Fire podcast, co-hosted Vaughan and Gilchr, Pant, who is known for his entertaining comments from behind the stumps, was asked how we would try to get under the skin of the two cricketing greats.
Rishabh Pant roasts Michael Vaughan
“I would say (to Vaughan) you’re focussing too much on social media,” Pant said as Gilchr and Vaughan broke out laughing.
When asked what he would say to Gilly to upset his rhythm while batting, Pant said: “He’s in his own zone, you cannot durb these kind of people. Nothing much I can say to him.”
Vaughan then asked Pant if he had any advice for the England cricket team, which will be travelling to Australia next year for the Ashes, since India had managed to defeat Australia in Australia.
“They already know what they need to do. As a batsman, I would say a simple thing, instead of punching the ball, look to cut the ball. That’s what I would say (to England’s Bazballers). Because when you punch the ball there is more chances of you getting caught, or just getting out. Australia is the best place for cuts and pulls. The fuller ball will not durb you much. Mostly it’s going to be back of length. These guys bowl the fuller ball littler wider off the off stump. In England, you can punch the ball in a better way.”
When Vaughan joked that with this advice Pant would soon be invited to join England’s coaching staff, the Indian retorted, “Then the players will say ‘this kid is going to teach us how to play’. Don’t put me in a spot like that.”
He was also asked how to get 20 wickets in Australia: “You need a little more pace in Australian conditions. Balls in 130 kmph are the best for a batter in Australian conditions. If you have a more than 140 kmph bowler, that makes a lot of difference.”
Rishabh Pant says Indians not thinking too much of Bazball
India defeated England 1-4 in the five-match series.
Pant was asked what Indians thought of Bazball. Pant said: “We’re not thinking about that too much!
“As a team you have to find your own strength. As a team you have to focus on yourself and not too much on the opposition.
On being asked if it was difficult to watch on the sidelines and watch India defeat England in the recent Test series, Pant said: “I don’t think so. If your team is doing well, it’s a good thing. I don’t feel bad about anything else. I just watched the cricket, I wasn’t taking any sides. Yes, you want your team to be the winner, but at the same time, cricket is something that you have to be a little neutral when you’re watching from outside. Of course my heart and soul is with Indian cricket, so you want India to win.”
