Imad Wasim caught smoking in dressing-room after taking five-wicket haul in PSL final win for Islamabad United | Cricket News

Islamabad United all-rounder Imad Wasim was caught smoking in the dressing-room after picking up a title-winning five-wicket haul for Islamabad United in the Pakan Super League (PSL) 2024 final win against Multan Sultans in Karachi on Monday.
Taking the new ball for Islamabad, Wasim razed through the Multan batting order with his career-best T20 figures of five for 23 in four overs – his first five-for in the PSL. Incidentally, Wasim’s figures were also the best any bowler in a PSL final as Islamabad restricted Multan to 159 for nine in 20 overs.
Caught in the act

Following the impressive showing in his four-over spell, Wasim returned to the dressing room when the broadcast visuals caught him smoking a cigarette during the 18th over of the innings.
In a tricky chase that followed, Martin Guptill’s half-century set up the game for Islamabad five down at 121. Walking in at number six, Wasim stood unbeaten on 19 as he took his side home in an eventual two-wicket win.

Wasim was also adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round exploits. Islamabad are now the most successful side across nine editions of the PSL with three titles. On the other hand, the Sultans have finished runners-up in three successive seasons.
The 35-year-old who has 65 T20I and 55 ODI wickets last represented Pakan in April 2024 besides 1472 international runs across formats.
There have also been other recent instances where cricketers have been caught smoking in the dressing room. During the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was seen vaping an e-cigarette in a match against South Africa. Previously in 2022, Afghanan wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad was handed a demerit point for smoking on the ground during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match.
