Zomato junks green colour code in ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ amid backlash: ‘All riders will wear red’ | Trending
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal took to X to share his update regarding the newly launched ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ dress code. In his post, he emphasised that though the company would “have a fleet for vegetarians,” all of their riders would continue wearing the red-coloured uniforms. This came after the food delivery company faced backlash for announcing that the delivery partners working for Zomato’s “Pure Veg Fleet” would carry green delivery boxes and wear green uniforms. Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal shared the picture saying he was stepping out to deliver some pure veg orders with the newly launched pure veg fleet.(@deepigoyal) “Update on our pure veg fleet — While we are going to continue to have a fleet for vegetarians, we have decided to remove the on-ground segregation of this fleet on the ground using the colour green. All our riders — both our regular fleet, and our fleet for vegetarians, will wear the colour red. This means that the fleet meant for vegetarian orders will not be identifiable on the ground (but will show on the app that your veg orders will be served the veg only fleet),” wrote Deepinder Goyal. In the following lines, he added, “This will ensure that our red uniform delivery partners are not incorrectly associated with non-veg food, and blocked any RWAs or societies during any special days… our riders’ physical safety is of paramount importance to us”. He also shared that the company “now” realises that the segregation of dresses could get the customers in trouble “with their landlords”. He further thanked everyone for helping the company “understand the unintended consequences of this rollout”. “We are always lening, without unnecessary ego, or pride. We look forward to continue serving you,” the CEO wrote, wrapping up his post. People posted varied comments while reacting to the post. What did X users say about Deepinder Goyal’s tweet?”Good decision. Question – two orders that could fit in one box will now be delivered in two boxes two different delivery partners. Who bears the cost of this inefficiency?” asked an X user. “Good decision, it is always better to update after getting honest feedback,” praised another. “What really shocks me is these plans get rolled out without much thought or consideration. One post on Twitter and everyone can tell you that it’s a bad marketing strategy. Allowing people to even choose a veg fleet to deliver in itself is a move that focuses on segregation. Anyway,” argued a third. “Glad you rectified it in no time. It was surprising that you announced something without thinking about the consequences. At least you saw the physical problem with this. Nobody is a hater, Deepinder. We all love Zomato, but we also know how rotten the society is. This would have turned into a nightmare for workers and families in housing societies,” wrote a fourth X user.
