No problems between KL Rahul and Sanjiv Goenka, says Lance Klusener: ‘Storm in a teacup…robust discussion between two cricket lovers’ | Ipl News
Lucknow Super Giants’ assant coach Lance Klusener on Monday played down talks of possible tensions in the dressing room after their previous defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad ended with owner Sanjiv Goenka caught on the broadcast camera having a public outburst, with skipper KL Rahul lening close .
“I don’t see any problem with some robust discussion between two cricket lovers. So for us, I guess it’s just a storm in a teacup. We love a robust discussion. I think that’s how teams get better. So, it’s not a big thing for us,” Klusener said during the pre-match press-conference in Delhi.
Furthermore, the former Proteas international played down the talks of the skipper being replaced after what has been a mixed season for the three-year old franchise. Opening the batting, Rahul has scored 460 runs this season at a sub-standard strike rate of 136.09.
“KL has got his own unique style which has made him a fantastic player and respected around the world. I think this IPL has been exceptionally tough for him because we’ve kept losing wickets at stages which hasn’t allowed him to kick on where he likes. He probably feels like he’s always having to rebuild,” Klusener said.
“I think as a batting unit around KL, we haven’t been as good as we should. It’s just been extremely tough conditions for him. That’s something we’ve chatted about as well — we’ve just kept losing wickets at tough times,” the LSG assant coach added.
LSG sit seventh in the points table with 12 points after 12 games and are still mathematically alive in the race for the playoffs. Their remaining two fixtures are against Delhi Capitals – who also have a chance to qualify – and Mumbai Indians – who have been knocked out of contention.
