Virat Kohli on when he retires: ‘I’ll be gone, you won’t see me for a while…’ | Ipl News

The question of ‘what next after I stop’ invariably pops up into every professional athlete’s mind when they contemplate retiring. Unlike other walks of life, an athlete’s career is short-lived at the very top. So it is natural to wonder where things go once they hang up their proverbial boots.
Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli, though, seems clear about what comes for him immediately after retirement, whenever that is. He will go off the radar for a while, Kohli said at RCB’s Royal Gala Dinner in a video posted the franchise on social media.
What keeps you hungry, Kohli was asked. “It’s quite simple. I think, as sportsmen, we do have an end date to our careers, so I’m just working backwards, I don’t want to finish my career thinking what if I had done this on that particular day because I can’t keep going on and on forever,” the former Indian captain said.
Kohli has always been someone who wears his heart on the sleeve nearly every time he steps out. Even during his tough phase as a batter, Kohli’s attitude and energy on the field rarely dipped.

“So, it’s just about not leaving any undone business behind and not having any regrets later, which I’m very sure of I won’t. Once I’m done, I’ll be gone; you won’t see me for a while. I want to give it everything I have till the time I play and that’s the only thing that keeps me going,” Kohli – who is having a stellar season with the bat for RCB –added.
Kohli, who returned to playing cricket after a break earlier this year, has scored more than 650 runs in IPL 2024 at a strike rate of 150+. After one of his best innings of the tournament, that came against Punjab Kings, he spoke about how he reacquainted himself with the slog sweep as he tried to find solutions to keep his strike rate high. “Still quality over quantity, more so at this stage of my career. Understanding your game over so many years allows you to practise but still stay switched on and still aiming to improve aspects of your game that you want to get better on,” he had said.
