India vs Australia T20 World Cup 2024 Playing 11: India will face Australia in their final Super 8 clash at the Daren Sammy National Stadium in St Lucia on Monday, hoping to nail down their top spot in Group 1 ahead of the semifinals.Rohit Sharma’s side has been unbeaten in the tournament and is all but through to the last four. However, they would want to avoid a heavy defeat against the wavering Aussies who suffered a shock 21-run defeat against Afghanan on Sunday. With little time to make a turnaround, Australia are left with no choice but to go hard at their nemesis to seal a semifinal spot ahead of Afghanan.
This will be the first time that the two teams will meet in a T20 World Cup contest since 2016 when India trumped Australia and moved to the semifinals.
Starc returns for Australia
Left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc was a glaring omission from the XI against Afghanan as Australia expected the extra spinner in Ashton Agar would do the damage for them against Afghanan. However, Starc’s left-arm angle and skill with the new ball might be just the boost Australia will be looking for against the likes of India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Powerplay.
Australia remain a solid side otherwise on paper and are unlikely to ring in further changes into the side.
India set to back XI
While there are lingering questions over the spots of Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, India are unlikely to tinker their composition at this stage of the competition. The team management is likely to back both all-rounders in their roles. However, on a flat batting wicket in St Lucia, India may be tempted to drop one of their left-arm spinners (likely Kuldeep Yadav) for Mohammed Siraj to attack Australia’s left-handed opening pair of Travis Head and David Warner.
