It is a masterclass: Rohit Sharma lauds Virat Kohli’s 76 runs against SA in T20 World Cup final | Cricket News

Rohit Sharma on Saturday heaped praises on Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya who were instrumental in helping India win their 2nd T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa 7 runs in the final in Barbados.
“Nobody was in doubt with Virat’s form. We know the quality he has, come the occasion the big players will stand up. Virat was holding that end up for us, we wanted someone to bat as long as possible. This wasn’t a wicket where a new guy could come and play straight. That’s where the experience of Virat comes through. I’ve been someone who has seen him play for so many years, but even I don’t know how he does it. It is a masterclass. He backs his skills and he is a very confident lad,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
Lauding vice captain Hardik, Rohit also said that the allrounder was ‘brilliant as well, bowling that last over.’
With this win, Rohit became the first-ever captain to lead a team to 50 T20I games. The 50th triumph being the World Cup final against South Africa.
Just behind Rohit in the tally is Pakan skipper Babar Azam, who has 48 wins to his name from 85 games. Rohit on the other hand has 50 wins from 62 outings, one of which is the super over win against Afghanan in the 3rd T20I.
Among Indian captains, MS Dhoni is the second most successful in the format – 41 wins from 72 matches – while Virat Kohli had 30 wins under his belt as Indian captain from 50 outings.

Rohit took over India’s captaincy in the shortest format after the underwhelming outing from the team in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

This is India’s first title since their ICC Champions Trophy win in 2013 and their second T20 World Cup trophy since edging Pakan five runs in the inaugural final in Johannesburg in 2007.
