She completed her degree in accounting from Clemson University and went on to become the first woman as well as the first person of an ethnic minority to hold the governorship of South Carolina, under the Republican banner. With four degrees to her name ranging from a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Queen’s University to a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto, Anand has also held academic positions at Yale, Queen’s University and Western University. She was the second woman in Canadian hory to take on the role of national defence miner, and the only Indian-origin woman to do so.
